The MG RX5 has been named the Middle East’s Best Small SUV by ArabWheels, beating off strong competition from models such as the Nissan X-Trail, Toyota Rush and Mazda CX-5 for the title. The announcement was made at the recent 4th annual ArabWheels Awards ceremony, at which some of the region’s most prestigious automotive honours were handed out at The Meydan Hotel in Dubai.
Presenting the award, Issam Eid, Editor-In-Chief of ArabWheels Magazine said: “The MG RX5 is extremely well equipped and combines this with great looks and practicality. We are very impressed with what our small SUV winner has brought to the market, and have no doubt that the brand has a very bright future as it continues to add more great quality models to its stylish line-up.”
MG’s new SUV combines style with innovative technology, with prices starting from US$14,540, depending on the market. The MG RX5 is available as entry level STD or mid-range COM models when equipped with a 1.5T petrol engine and 7-speed automatic gearbox. The more powerful 2.0T powerplant with 6-speed automatic gearbox is available on COM or top-of-the-range LUX trim levels, with the latter also featuring All-Wheel Drive.
Launched in the region earlier this year, the MG RX5 showcases an attractive, futuristic design that is instantly recognisable, notably at the front where the stylish square LED headlamps and imposing wing-shaped grille endow it with real on-the-road presence. Exemplifying the comprehensive equipment levels for which MG cars are renowned, entry level models come with automatic air conditioning, front and rear electric windows, cruise control, ABS and ABD, Hill Descent Control, a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and a remote trunk opening function as standard.
Accepting the award, Tom Lee, Managing Director of SAIC Motor Middle East, the parent company of MG Motor, said: “The MG RX5 embodies the brand’s new, innovative direction, appealing to younger motorists looking for performance, efficiency and class leading comfort in a stylish, technologically-advanced package. This recognition from ArabWheels comes at a time when MG Motor is seeing sales of its cars soar across the region, demonstrating clearly the confidence that new car buyers have in the brand.”
The ArabWheels Awards are bestowed on behalf of the various ArabWheels media platforms, including magazine, website, apps, web TV, and e-news. The 2018 ArabWheels Awards are judged by a panel of distinguished automotive industry experts, while also featuring a strong public vote element. The ArabWheels Awards launched in 2015 to recognise and acknowledge the newest and greatest of the automotive world.
